So many other needy and worthy organizations exist in greater Bridgeport that funding scholarships is not enough. Over 15 years ago, Charter Oak began a continuous grant cycle to dedicate time and money to proven programs at existing organizations.
Good programs exist, but many don’t have the support to continue or expand. Charter Oak looks for organizations with proven records of effecting positive change. We research only those places we believe in, and that have shown they have successfully achieved their missions but need financial support to grow.
Charter Oak seeks to fund over time to ensure the growth of promising organizations and continuing support from the community. We remain in close contact with recipient organizations long after we approve their grant requests because we know giving means much more than writing checks.
Charter Oak strives to make a meaningful and significant difference. Members of our board visit each potential recipient organization. We look for organizations with competent and committed boards and staff, strong leadership, proven programs and great need.
